THE quality of runners competing in the Meerbrook 15k was enhanced by the inclusion of an Inter Area match between Staffordshire, North Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire.
The race was won by Carl Moulton (Boalloy), pictured, who was at the head of the field from the start, where he duelled with Jonathan Smith (Lymn Runners), before forging clear to finish in an impressive time of 54 minutes and 54 seconds.
Smith managed to hold onto second place in 55:31 ahead of Ryan Nokes (City of Stoke AC) nine seconds behind.
The women’s race was dominated from start to finish by Hannah Cowley (Helsby AC) who cruised home in 60:05.
Sarah Willhoit (Shrewsbury AC) won a duel with Anna Hollingworth (Stone Master Marathoners) and Debbie Thomas (Trentham) for second place, clocking 64:06. Hollingworth finished third in 64:31.
Staffordshire came out on top in both the men’s and women’s competitions in the Inter Area match.
