Blues missed the services of their three key marksmen

LEEK Town founded it hard going without their three key marksmen for their Buildbase FA Trophy clash with Loughborough Dynamo at Harrison Park yesterday.

Missing from the Blues line-up were the injured Tim Grice and Dan Trickett-Smith and the suspended Jordan Johnson.

Loughborough were also without their in-form strike partnership of Karl Demidh and Ryan Robbins, who have scored 16 goals between them this season.

It was hardly surprising therefore that the game ended goalless, though Blues were unlucky to have two penalty appeals turned down right at the end.

Leek’s only effort on target in the first half came from recent new signing Aaron Bott, in the 36th minute, which was comfortably saved.

Bott, pictured, got through on goal in the 64th minute but the keeper saved his attempt with an outstretched leg.

The game ended dramatically when Blues had two strong penalty appeals waved aside by the referee in the closing minutes.

Bott went down under a challenge in the box in the 87th minute and then in the dying seconds Sam Hall’s goal attempt appeared to strike a Dynamo defender’s hand.

The preliminary round tie will be replayed at Loughborough on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm).
