COUNCIL bosses are being urged to take enforcement action against travellers who have set up camp on Cheadle’s town centre short-stay public car park.
Around 18 caravans have moved onto the pay-and-display Tape Street car park owned by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
Angry local traders say their businesses will be affected because of a sudden lack of car parking spaces for regular shoppers.
Town councillor Ray Wood said some of the caravans are taking up four or five car parking spaces.
Police say the issue is a civil matter but they are monitoring the situation.
A district council spokesman said the authority was following procedures and liaising with the occupants on the site.
