NEIL Baker’s dreams of taking Leek Town to a second FA Trophy Final at Wembley have been dashed for another season.
The beaten 1990 finalists lost 1-0 to Stamford in tonight’s first qualifying round replay, despite the visitors being reduced to 10 men for the remaining half-hour.
Stamford’s Kern Miller was sent off in the 61st minute for a bad foul on Jordan Johnson.
Johnson and fellow Blues striker Aaron Bott each had a goal disallowed for offside in the first-half.
Stamford’s deciding goal came in the 52nd minute when Liam Adams turned in a low cross from close range.
Blues skipper Scott Lycett went close to levelling the scores in the 77th minute when his goalbound effort was tipped over the bar by Stamford keeper Danny Haystead.
Haystead then had a let off 10 minutes from time when he spilled a Bott free kick and in the ensuing scramble the ball hit the post.
Stamford now face Southern League Premier Division outfit Kettering Town at home in the second qualifying round on Saturday, November 10.
