Intense heat could be felt from Cheddleton barn blaze over 500 metres away.

CHEDDLETON residents said they could feel the heat some 500 metres away from Tuesday night’s serious barn blaze.

The building was occupied by only a few cows and chickens which escaped uninjured

The farm house was not affected as it is about 200 metres away from the fire and is in a derelict state.

The is barn split into two sections with straw and animals in the top section and farm machinery in the larger lower section.

It is reported that no-one was injured in the blaze and all the animals were safe. Basford Bridge Lane remained closed to traffic the following morning.

Local district and county councillor Mike Worthington urges people to stay away from the scene so as not to hamper firefighters damping down the smouldering remnants of the gutted barn.

An investigation to the cause of the fire has not yet started.
