Firefighters remain at the scene of the serious barn blaze at Cheddleton

FIREFIGHTERS remain at the scene of the serious barn blaze at Cheddleton near Leek.

Heavy lifting equipment is assisting firefighters  with the task of damping down the smouldering remnants of the large building which contained agricultural machinery.

No-one was injured in the blaze or farm animals.

Local residents reported feeling the heat 500 metres away at the height of Tuesday night’s blaze.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the incident at around 8.30pm by more than 30 callers. Five fire appliances were despatched to the scene off Basford Bridge Lane.

Nearby Basford Bridge Lane remains closed to traffic and local residents are asked to access their homes via the A520 Cheadle Road which runs through the heart of the village.
