Local Conservative MPs at odds over Brexit deal put before Westminster members

CONSERVATIVE MP for the Staffordshire Moorlands Karen Bradley gave her support to the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal in Parliament last night

But the cabinet member’s vote was not enough to spare the Tories the largest government defeat in modern-day history.

The House of Commons voted 432 to 202 against the deal with the help of veteran Euro-sceptic Sir William Cash, whose Stone constituency includes the Cheadle area of the Moorlands.

Teresa May’s government will today face a vote of no confidence which was tabled by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn immediately after the result.

If Mr Corbyn wins the support of more than half of the MPs it could force an early general election. The vote is expected to take place at around 1pm.
