LEEK 1st XV are through to the semi-finals of the Staffordshire Intermediate Cup after beating Midlands Two West (North) rivals Tamworth 17-14 away.
Victory was achieved despite Leek losing promising young lock Jake Hartley through injury early on.
The game could have gone either way before Jack Newton-Taylor stepped up to feed George Hunt to touch down and Issac Reaney converted.
Joe Newton-Taylor had given Leek an early lead only for Tamworth to hit back with a converted try to go ahead 7-5 before half-time.
However, Leek were back in front five minutes into the second half when Kini Buli touched down despite being under pressure.
A late surge by Tamworth saw them pull the score back to 17-14 with a converted try, but Leek managed to see out the remaining three minutes.
Leek return to league action this Saturday when they travel to Crewe & Nantwich.
