CHRISTMAS can’t come soon enough for many festive season fans.
But some councillors in Cheadle say the town is now celebrating too early.
There were complaints after Team Cheadle, organisers of the Christmas lights switch, pencilled in this year’s event for November 16 – a day earlier than last year.
Town councillor Stephen Ellis: “The lights used to go up in the first week of December. I don’t mind it coming into November, but this is too early.
“By the time Christmas does arrive people are fed up,” he added.
A number of councillors feel the date is too close to Remembrance Sunday (Nov 10) but the Royal British Legion has raised no objection.
Team Cheadle say the date has been agreed with traders and has been chosen to avoid lights switch-ons at other towns.
