CHEADLE Running Club can look back with great satisfaction at the success of this year’s Cheadle Spring 5 road race.
“As more and more runner’s completed the course, the crowd grew and the atmosphere was one of celebration,” said a club spokesman.
“The PA announcers kept everyone up to date with who was finishing, assisted by most runner’s having their names printed on their race numbers, which were once again sponsored by Hillside Fishing Pool.
“Everyone managed to get around with no injuries, which meant that the team from Cheadle St John Ambulance were also able to enjoy the race as spectators.”
First home for Cheadle RC behind race winner Felix McGrath (Newcastle AC) was Carl Astley with a time of 30:58. This was also enough to win the 50-54 age category that he has recently joined.
Carl was closely followed by training partner David Allen in 31:41 and the next two Cheadle members were Marie Kennaway and Jenny Dalkins, followed by Paul Stoddard (34:29), Sharleen Hollinshead (34:33) and Mark Stoddard (34:35). Next for Cheadle was Ruth Watchorn-rice, taking the female 50-54 prize in 35:07.
Other Cheadle runner’s were Matt Machin (36:39), Antony Barks (38:13), David Nutter (40:32), Melissa Dawson (41:13), Julie Dudley (47:35), Susan Jones (48:32) and Alexandra Ainsworth (49:02).
Julie’s achievement behind ladies race winner Leah Whiston (Newcastle AC) was extra special, as it was her 60th birthday, and she was one of several runners who started from scratch on Cheadle Running Club’s Couch to 5k programme just last year.
At the presentation ceremony afterwards, prizes were given out by representatives of two sponsors, Derek Fower Transport and Stoddards Limited. Cheadle Running Club also thanked their other sponsors and supporters, Blake Hall Fisheries and Woodwards Printers, as well as those mentioned above.
If anyone is interested in getting into running, Cheadle Running Club has another Couch to 5k programme starting on May 1.
