Safety warnings issued as severe weather hits Staffordshire

THE Met Office has warned the current strong winds in Staffordshire caused by Storm Gareth will continue until at least mid-afternoon and urge people to take extra care.

Winds gusting at speeds of around 45mph-50mph are crossing the county, causing risk of damage to property and danger to motorists, particularly those driving high-sided vehicles.

Staffordshire Highways teams are on standby to respond to any issues relating to the severe weather.

Leek’s outdoor market has been cancelled in the interests of public safety, but the indoor markets remain open.
