Firefighters pay their respects at funeral of popular former colleague

Leek firefighters line up outside their station to honour Gary Bowcock with a minute’s silence.

FIREFIGHTING colleagues joined family and friends at the funeral of retired crew commander Gary Bowcock in Leek today.
The servce was held at St Luke’s Church, in Gary’s home town, and among the mourners were his White Watch crew colleagues from Longton fire station.

Gary, 55, served Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Serice for 28 years before being diagnosed with the crippling disease two years ago.
The popular firefighter died recently after losing his battle against motor neurone disease.
Staffordshire’s chief fire officer Becci Bryant said: “Our thoughts and prayers remain with Gary’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.”
