Star ascends for Team Candlish at Wolverhampton racecourse

Jockey Joe Fanning.

STAR Ascending lit up the face of Staffordshire Moorlands trainer Jennie Candlish with his third win on the all-weather at Woverhampton Races this afternoon.
The seven-year-old gelding got up by a length to score over 1m 4f under Joe Fanning, making it seven wins in the hands of the Dublin-born jockey.
Patient followers of the horse, trained at Basford Grange stables, near Cheddleton, were rewarded with generous odds of 8/1, after failing to collect from four previous runs.
Star Ascending, owned by Cheadle buisnessman Paul Wright-Bevans, has also won three times at Southwell and once at Lingfield, with 12 wins in all to date from 60 outings.
The gelding’s latest success at Wolverhampton saw Fanning track the leaders, before taking up the running two furlongs out and holding on under a determined drive.
