Young bikers can learn a lot from special events

YOUNG motorcyclists from across Staffordshire are being invited to attend a Young Biker BBQ at Bryan’s BMW Rider Training School at the bet365 Stadium next Wednesday (June 12).

The event, organised by the Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP), will have stands offering advice to young riders. As well as a free burger and drink for young riders, people will also have the opportunity to win prizes or test their riding skills with the Moto Gymkhana obstacle course.

Speaking on behalf of the partnership, cabinet member for Highways at Staffordshire County Council Helen Fisher said: “Keeping our roads safe is one of our top priorities and this includes helping our bikers to improve their riding skills.

“Bikers only represent around 1 per cent of all traffic on our roads but unfortunately they make up 28 per cent of those killed or seriously injured. That’s why it’s important we reach out to them through events like this to make sure they have the skills and know-how to keep themselves and other road users safe.

“Young riders are particularly vulnerable, so this is a great opportunity for them to not only meet other bikers over a burger but to get an update on the latest initiatives and training opportunities.”

The partnership is also offering potential young bikers aged 15 to 21 the opportunity to receive a £50 voucher off their Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course when they attend a workshop. The Pre-CBT workshops are held monthly from Sandyford, Burton and Cannock Fire Stations with the next workshop at Sandyford Fire Station on June 26 from 6.15pm to 9pm. People interested in attending can sign up at the BBQ.

9Bikers of all ages can also enjoy a free bacon or sausage bap at the Bikers’ Breakfast tomorrow (June 9) at Port Vale Football Club, in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. Information stands, presentations and the new Info Hub offering a chance to win prizes including a set of Michelin bike tyres will be available.  The event runs from 10am to 2pm and generally sees around 1000 attendees.
