UTTOXETER Cricket Club have named the renovated pavilion at their new Marchington ground in honour of their chairman, David Hunt senior, and president/secretary Mike Walmsley.
“They have been instrumental in the running of the club for decades and the Hunt Walmsley Pavilion is a fitting tribute for their tireless work,” said club spokesman James Burton.
The pavilion was officially opening by Derbyshire county cricketer Wayne Madsen on Friday evening.
The occasion was a chance for visitors to see all the hard work that has taken place at the previously derelict Jacks Lane ground.
First eleven skipper Gavin Hall presented gifts to key parties who have overseen the club’s move from their former ground at Uttoxeter Racecourse.
Clean Hit Cricket hosted a pop-up cricket shop, selling a range of cricket equipment and catering was provided by the Pig Out Hog Roast who hosted a BBQ.
Plans for an under-9’s mini junior tournament with Cheadle and Wootton were unfortunately cancelled due to the inclement weather.
“Nevertheless, the event was incredibly well attended with standing room only in the bar,” added John Burton.
