GREATt Wood Primary School, in Upper Tean, lifted the Cheadle and District School Sports Association (CADSSA) Y5/6 Tag Rugby Championships Trophy for the first time.
The festival, hosted by St. Werburgh’s C.E. (A) Primary School, in Kingsley, welcomed nine schools and around 100 players.
The tournament was watched by more than 100 spectators, including visitors and all of the children at the host school.
The tournament finished with Great Wood Primary School and St. John’s C.E. (A) Primary School, in Wetley Rocks, tying for the top spot, having each remained unbeaten throughout.
Great Wood have been very close to winning the title over the past couple of years, narrowly missing-out to their sister school, St. Werburgh’s in the final match of last year’s event.
School leader Ben Adamson, commented: “I am so, so proud of the players for not just winning the championship for the first time, but for playing such lovely rugby and displaying such an amazing attitude.”
“The standard of rugby was very high this year, with the event going into the last matches with three schools still in with a chance of winning.
