Khan stars again as Cheadle claim a winning draw against the defending champions

Cheadle’s batting sensation Ali Khan

CHEADLE’S Ali Khan took his runs tally for the season in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League Premier Division onto the 400-mark with a century against defending Premier Division champions Porthill Park this afternoon.
The club’s big-hitting overseas professional blasted 108 runs off 90 balls before being run out by Ben Cotton as Cheadle made their way to 175-9 declared.
Khan has now scored 544 runs in his seven visits to the crease in league and cup matches for Cheadle this year, which include two centuries and four half-centuries.
He suffered his only failure with the bat against Leek in the league two weeks ago, when he was dismissed without scoring.
Khan piled on the runs against Porthill, while his fellow Cheadle batsmen found it hard to score in the difficult wet conditions. Just three of his team mates managed to get into double figures – Matthew Sellers (13), Jack Hassall (16) and Adam Alcock (10).
The match ended in a winning draw for Cheadle with Porthill 135-7. Seamer Matt Goodwin not only returned 3-26 but also held onto two catches.
Opening bat Darren Plant top scored against his home town club with 46 and he and Simon Wood (36) were the backbone of the Porthill innings.
Cheadle were due to figure in tomorrow’s Barney McCardle Trophy tournament at Endon but it has been cancelled
