Champion jockey in action at Uttoxeter races

CHAMPION jockey Richard Johnson will be in action when horseracing returns to Uttoxeter this afternoon (June 19).
Johnson, pictured, has three rides on the seven-race card, which commences at 2.10 with a mares’ handicap hurdle.
The opener has attracted two entries from local trainer Barry Leavy’s Fulford yard, Infiniti and Remember Nerja, the former to be ridden by Sean Bowen, son of Welsh trainer Peter Bowen.
Bowen partnered the six-year-old when it finished second at the course on June 7 and it is his only ride at the meeting.
Jennie Candllish sends out Grove Silver from her Basford Grange Stables, near Cheddleton, to contest the Holdcroft Volvo Handicap Hurdle at 4.35.
Leading northern jockey Brian Hughes will be in the saddle as Team Candlish attempt to get back on the winning trail.
All eyes will be on the Skelton partnership which has enjoyed plenty of recent success at the course.
Trainer Dan and jockey Harry have an interest in four of the seven races.
Female jockey-of-the moment Bryony Frost travels all the way up from Devon to partner the Neil King-trained Parisian Affair in the maiden hurdle at 2.45 and top weight Sackett in the Derek Fower Transport Handicap Chase at 5.10.
Frost rode her biggest-ever winner at this year’s Cheltenham Festival, when Frodon stormed to victory in the Ryanair Chase.
