Champion jockey rides a winner on a disappointing day for the Skeltons’ at Uttoxeter Races

CHAMPION jockey Richard Johnson (pictured) made today’s journey to Uttoxeter Races worthwhile by riding Darling Miss to victory in the Holdcroft Volvo Handicap Hurdle.
The six-year-old, trained in Ireland by Gordon Elliott, was a comfortable winner by 10 lengths, after being sent off 4/6 favourite.
Staffordshire Moorlands trainer Jennie Candlish’s stable veteran, Grove Silver ,finished last of the seven-strong field, after leading to the half-way stage of the 2m3f race.
The 10-year-old, from the Basford Grange yard, near Cheddleton, was having his first run over hurdles for four years, following a period tackling the bigger obstacles.
It was a disappointing winless afternoon for the Skelton partnership – trainer Dan and jockey Harry – who normally do well at the East Staffordshire course.
Top female jockey Bryony Frost also returned home to Devon without win from both her rides for trainer Neil King.
