Police investigating open water tragedy

POLICE are investigating after a man died after being pulled from the water in Stowe Pool, Lichfield, yesterday (July 8).

Officers were called to a report of a man who had got into difficulty in the water at 5.38pm.

Emergency services including West Midlands Ambulance Service, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene.

The man, in his 50s, was taken to hospital but despite the best efforts of staff, he died a short time later.

There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances and the man’s next of kin has been informed. A report is being prepared for HM Coroner.

The matter is being referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous police contact.
