Moorlands teams have dominated this year’s JS Talbot Cup competition

Cheadle CC 1st XI

WHATEVER the outcome of this year’s JS Sports Talbot Cup semi-finals on Sunday week (July 21), at least one team from the Staffordshire Moorlands will be in the final.
That’s because Cheadle, Checkley and Cresswell-based Blythe are all through to the last four.
Last year’s beaten finalists Cheadle have been drawn away to Blythe, while Checkley travel to face 2013 winners Whitmore, who were also beaten finalists four years ago.
Cheadle lost by 56 runs to Premier Division champions Porthill Park in last seasons final, as The Bassetts made an unsuccessful bid to add to their cup successes in 1981, 1982, 1987 and 2012.
Porthill suffered a shock early exit in this competition at the hands of Division Two side Bignall End.
WESTON have resigned from Division One of the North Staffs and South Cheshire League after struggling to field a first team this season, but the club’s 2nd XI will continue to play in Division Five.
Weston’s results will be expunged from the Division One table as a result of their withdrawal.
