NATHAN Collins was the surprise choice as Stoke City’s youngest-ever first team skipper for tonight’s Carabao Cup tie against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium..
And the teenager rewarded Stoke boss Nathan Jones for handing him the captain’s armband by scoring the Potters winning goal.
Collins, pictured, rose at the back post to head in from a corner kick in the 10th minute.
An energised Stoke had no fewer than 24 attempts at finding the back of the Wigan net but could only manage six shots on target.
Collins only regret on a personal night to remember was a 64th minute booking for a rash challenge.
The 18-year-old has made rapid progress for Stoke since joining them from Cherry Orchard Youth Club in 2017.
Last month Colins signed a new five-year contract for Stoke after Manchester United were reported to be expressing an interest in the player
