Thousands of children signed up for reading challenge

MORE than 10,000 children from across Staffordshire have taken part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge and there’s still time to join.
As part of the scheme, youngsters are borrowing and reading six library books to earn their stickers and certificates. This year’s theme is Space Chase, inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landings.
Children are teaming up with futuristic family The Rockets for an exciting space mission as they track down books nabbed by a mischievous band of aliens.
Now, Staffordshire’s library Service who are behind the scheme are calling on children to make sure they finish the challenge and claim their prizes.
Leek Rural member Gill Heath, Libraries Chief at Staffordshire County Council said: “Having over 10,000 children sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge is amazing.
“It’s always been very popular with our young readers and this year’s Space Chase theme has been just as exciting. There’s still time to go until the challenge finishes on 10th September so I would urge everyone to try and finish their books and claim their prizes.”
