Outcrop close to harvesting first prize

OUTCROP went close to harvesting a win for trainer Jennie Candlish at Kelso Races this evening.
The five-year-old was beaten just half-a-length by favourite Canford Thompson in the final 2m handicap hurdle race on the card.
Outcrop was closing down on the race leader with every stride, after rallying under jockey Tom Dowson, but the winning post came just too soon.
Team Candlish sent four runners on the 200-mile journey up to the Scottish Borders course from the Basford Grange yard near Leek.
Catchmeifyoucan finished a disappointing second from last in the opening 2m handicap hurdle race.
The stable’s Stop Talking faired better in the 2m 4f handicap hurdle, finishing third, but then Mullinavat had a crashing fall under Henry Brooke in the 2m1f handicap chase that followed.
Dowson partnered all three other rides.
