Despair . . . and joy for ‘Carsar’ cricketers

Caverswall’s Nazakat Ali.

IT was ironic that Caverswall should produce their best performance of the season while on the verge of relegation from Division One of the North Staffs and South Cheshire League.
It’s been a long hard season for ‘Carsar’ who pulled out of the bag a comfortable 198 runs victory at Sandyford on Saturday.
From arguably the division’s team of the year last summer, when they managed to secure fourth place in the table, they’ve hit rock-bottom in 2019.
But the Caverswall faithful for once had something to smile about at the weekend, as Muhammad Naveed top scored with 83, hitting 11 fours and two sixes in the process, in steering the vistors to a commendable290 all out at fellow strugglers Sandyford.
Nazakat Ali added 67 and there were other solid contributions from Jamie Ball (40) and Zain Shah (38) .
Sandyford were undone after tea by Ball (3-24) and Tom Caton (3-42) to be all out for 92.
Caverswall find themselves 24-points adrift of safety going into their final fixture at home to Little Stoke this Saturday (12 noon)
ON a happier note, Caverswall 2nds clinched promotion from Division Six with a comfortable victory at home to Sandyford 2nds on saturday.
They will accompany Moorlands rivals Ashcombe Park 2nds up into Division Five for the 2020 season.
