Blythe snap up overseas star in a serious bid to quickly regain top flight status

Namibian international Christi Viljoen is set to make a return to the NSSCL.

RELEGATED Blythe have underlined their determination to gain a quick return to the top flight of the North Staffs and South Cheshire League by signing a familiar overseas professional for 2020.
The Cresswell-based club have swooped to land the signature of South African all-rounder Christoffel “Christi” Viljoen, a former Burslem star, who plays for the Namibia national side.
Viljoen, 31, enjoyed two successful seasons with Burslem, in 2016 and 2017, scoring more than 1,200 runs and claiming over 100 wickets .
He has since been playing domestic cricket for Otago in New Zealand.
Viljoen will come up against his former club next year after Burslem’s promotion as 2019 Division One champions.
Pretoria-born Viljoen is a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler.
His return to England will come as a great boost to Blythe, who find themselves back in Division One, after just two seasons in the top tier, following their promotion as runners-up to champions Cheadle in 2017.
Blythe suffered the loss of their Staffordshire seamer Matt Goodwin to Cheadle for this year’s campaign and have been bottom of the table all summer.
