Staffordshire County Council’s Leader Philip Atkins has paid tribute to county councillor Michael Greatorex – who has sadly died after a short illness.

Mr Greatorex, who represented Watling South, was former chairman of the County Council and chair of the council’s corporate review committee, passed away on Monday, October 28.

Coun Atkins said: “Michael was a truly dedicated and hard-working local councillor who was hugely respected not only by this council, but by the community he served.

“He served on a number of committees at the council but it was as Chairman of the County Council where he particularly flourished and I know he was extremely proud to represent this council across the county in this role.

“Michael will be remembered as a gentleman and I know all councillors will also remember him for his firmness, his fairness and above all his quick humour in managing debates across the council chamber.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with his wife Moira and his family at this very sad time.”
