Leek is ready to light up for Christmas 2019

The annual Christmas lights switch-on attracts thousands of people into Leek town centre.

LEEK will mark the start of the 2019 festive season with the traditional switching on of the town centre’s Christmas Lights tomorrow (Nov 15) night.
This colourful annual family event attracts thtousands of visitors into the market town whatever the weather.
It will start with a parade from Moorlands House, in Stockwell Street, at 6.30pm, led by the 2nd Leek Scouts Band and town mayor Sue Coleman, accompanied by visiting civic dignatries and other guests.
The lights will be officially switched on in the Sparrow Park pedestrian area at the bottom of Derby Street at 7pm.
Popular local band Sound Party will entertain the crowd and will be on stage from 7.15pm.
Other activities include fairground rides, Totally Locally stalls in Market Place, and local charity stalls and sideshows in Derby Street.
Motorists are warned a number of temporary road closures will be in place in the interests of public safety.
Derby Street, Sheepmarket, Stanley Street, Russell Street, Bath Street and Market Street will be closed to traffic from around 2pm until 10pm in order to accommodate the town centre activties.
Rolling road closures are also set to be in place from 6.15pm til 7pm to allow the parade to pass through the town
These road closures will affect Stockwell Street, Market Street, Mill Street, Church Lane, St Edward Street and the junction of Strangman Street.
