Police appeal for witnesses to crash which claimed the life of elderly man

POLICE are appealing for dashcam footage of a fatal car crash in the Staffordshire Moorlands which claimed the life of a 80-year-old man.
The collision involved a silver Vauxhall Meriva and a red Mercedes CLC220 on Alton Road, Threapwood, between Cheadle and Alton, shortly before 5pm on Wednesday.
The fatally injured elderly man was confirmed dead at the scene despite the valiant efforts of paramedicas to save him.
The seriously injured driver of the Mercedes, a 43-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent, and his passenger, a 25-year-old man also from Stoke-on-Trent, who escaped with minor injuries, were taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital.
Officers from the Stafordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses who may have last seen the vehicles before the collision or anyone with relevant dashcam footage.
They are asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 587 of December 11.
