Police officer suffered broken leg after car believed to be stolen failed to stop

A POLICE officer has been treated in hospital for a serious leg injury following a collision in Stoke-on-Trent last night (Jan 16).  

The incident occurred at around 6.30pm last night on The Strand in Longton, as a Ford Fiesta failed to stop for officers. The vehicle was believed to be stolen. The car mounted the pavement and was in collision with a police car, a Vauxhall Insignia, which resulted in injury to an officer.  

After making off, the red Ford Fiesta was discovered abandoned a short distance away on Driffield Close.

The officer sustained a serious fracture to his left leg, and was taken to hospital for further treatment. He has since been discharged.

An investigation is currently underway.

The force is supporting him with his recovery and welfare.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman appealed to the public: “If you have any information or witnessed the incident, please call us on 101 quoting incident 524 of 16 January”.
