Another rising young sports star from Painsley College looks to have a bright future

PAINSLEY RC College has a habit of celebrating rising young sports stars, with Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, from Uttoxeter, an absolute shining example.
Now another young athlete, like Adam bred in the East Staffs town and student at the Cheadle college, is showing great promise – athlete Caitlin McCarney.
Caitlin, 12, was U13 girls age group winner at the recent Staffordshire Schools Cross-Country Championships, held at Betley Court Farm, having won all her qualifying races.
She wore the Staffordshire Moorlands schools vest when racing 40-metres clear at the end of the 2.85km Year 7 race in testing muddy conditions.
The young Burton AC runner, who finished fourth in her age group in the North Midlands Cross-Country League and 19th in the Midlands Championships, will be competing in a 500-strong field at the Saucony National Cross-Country Championships on February 22.
Caitlin will then round off her winter season representing Staffordshire in the county U13 girls team at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough in March.
