Blues suffer heaviest home league defeat of the season

AN out-of-sorts Blues were sent crashing to their heaviest home league defeat of the season by their promotion-seeking visitors.

Basford were stronger in every department and comfortably extended their unbeaten league and cup run to an impressive 11 games.

The defeat was extra painful for Leek as it resulted in Basford replacing them in fourth spot in the table.

Courtney Grantham and Kieran Wells bagged a brace of goals apiece for the visitors as Leek’s seven-game undefeated run came to a sad end.

Ben Hutchinson, who netted Basford’s third goal from the penalty spot soon after half-time, went on to prove his capabilities as a goal-stopper after regular custodian Saul Deeley went off injured.

Grantham and Wells added to their first-half goals to further increase Basford’s lead with 20 minutes remaining, before it was Hutchinson’s turn to prove his worth with excellent stops Tim Grice and Chris Budrys.
