Ex-Blues boss returns to Harrison Park with Loughborough Dynamo

PETER Ward returns to Harrison Park tomorrow (Saturday) as manager of Loughborough Dynamo.

The likeable Ward managed Leek Town during their first season in the Conference in 1997 and was later Blues assistant to Lee Casswell in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.

Leek will be expected to take maximum points from a struggling Loughborough side sitting third from bottom of the Division One South table.

Blues in contrast are on the fringe of the promotion play-off places and will be looking to build on last Saturday’s 2-1 win at Romulus.

Fans can pay a tribute to former Leek Town secretary  Brian Wain with one minute’s applause before kick-off.

Mr Wain, 71, suffered a fatal heart attack while on holiday with his grandson in Abu Dhabi last month.

Blues were planning to make the tribute before last Tuesday night’s home fixture against Spalding United, but the game was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

Mr Wain’s funeral will take place at Trentham Parish Church next Tuesday (7pm) followed by a private cremation.

The family have requested no flowers but have asked instead for donations to the Douglas Macmillan Hospice at Blurton.
