WAITROSE has finally shut up shop in Leek with the loss of 120 jobs.
Speculation is now mounting who will take over the Buxton Road site.
The Waitrose store only opened in the town three years ago.
Customers presented Waitrose with a 1,500-signature urging them to have a re-think without success.
The retail giant explained the store was no longer sustainable, hence the decision to move out.
Speculation is now mounting as to who will now move onto the site.
Aldi, who already have a busy store in the town, and McDonalds – previously unsuccessful with a bid to move onto a garage site in Broad Street – could be contenders.
