17-hour rooftop stand-off in Stoke-on-Trent street ends peacefully

A 31-year-old man has been arrested following a lengthy rooftop stand-off in Stoke-on-Trent.

The man eventually came down peacefully shortly before 5pm today, having been on the roof of the terraced house in Meir for almost 17 hours.

During this time trained police negotiators were in contact with him.

The was taken to hospital for a precautionary check-up under police escort.

The street was cordoned off by police during the incident and there is still a lot of debris in the road.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Thankfully, the incident came to a peaceful and safe conclusion.”
