Leek Town take on league leaders Basford United at home

LEEK Town will have to be at their best when they take on Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South leaders Basford United at Harrison Park today (Oct 14), kick off 2pm.

Basford and league newcomers Cleethorpes are nine points clear of the chasing pack at the top of the table.

Leek are fifth and will be doubly keen to prevent that gap from widening further, if they are to maintain a serious challenge for promotion even at this early stage of the season.

“I’ve watched them [Basford] twice and we will have to be at our best to beat them, certainly,” said Blues boss Neil Baker.

Leek enter the game on the back of an encouraging 4-1 win over Lincoln United in the FA Trophy, after a run inconsistent results, which included a shock six-goal defeat at the hands of Midland League outfit Shepshed Dynamo in the FA Cup.

Since then Blues have welcomed former Crewe Alex and Liverpool attacking midfielder Dan Trickett-Smith into the team. He scored twice in the Lincoln defeat.

He’s having to adjust to non-league football, of course, but it’s going ok,” said Baker.
