ANDY Keates outboxed Belper bruiser Ryan Fields to earn a crack at the English Welterweight crown after winning the title eliminator at Derby’s Rollerworld last night (Oct 13).
The Leek postie delivered a series of match-winning punches to out-point an opponent beaten only once in his previous 11 professional fights.
For Keates, 26, pictured, it was just reward for a 10 weeks of intensive training and takes him a step forward to fulfilling his ambition of holding a national title belt.
Keates, a former top amateur fighter, now faces a formidable opponent in Londoner Johnny Garton to achieve that goal.
The 30 year old Peckham puncher has lost just once in 22 contests and scored a unanimous points decision against Cambrigeshire-based Tyler Goodjohn in his title defence at Bethnall Green’s York Hall last month.
