Leek Town goalkeeper grasps man-of-the-match award

GOALKEEPER Ben Chapman was named Leek Town’s man-of-the-match after his side’s 1-0 victory at home to Loughborough Dynamo in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League yesterday.

Chapman, pictured receiving his award, had to be at his best to deny the lively visitors a score and he crowned his outstanding performance with a 61st minute penalty save after skipper Scott Lycett handled in the area.

Jordan Johnson had put Leek ahead from close range with his tenth league goal of the season just six minutes earlier.

Leek’s fourth win from five starts over the festive season moved them up into seventh place in the Division One South table on 37 points.

A New Year’s Day victory at Market Drayton Town could take them into the promotion play-off places.

GOALS from former Leek Town players James Curley (2) and Kyle Esplin secured a surprise 3-3 draw for Uttoxeter Town away to Division One leaders Leicester Road in the Midland League.

Uttoxeter stormed back from 3-0 down after 53 minutes with a stunning second-half recovery that led to the Leicester Road goalkeeper being named man-of-the-match.
