Busy commuter route opened up again after police incident

TRAFFIC is flowing again on a busy commuter route which connects the Staffordshire Moorlands with the Potteries after being closed all day due to a police incident at Bucknall.

Paramedics and police were called to a property on Ruxley Road shortly before 10 o’clock this morning following reports that a woman had been seriously assaulted.

Armed and unarmed officers were deployed to the scene, along with specialist police negotiators.

The woman received leg and facial injuries and was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital but has since been discharged.

Police closed off Ruxley Road and the nearby A52 Cellarhead – Potteries road throughout the day while dealing with the incident.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said tonight:”We have safely concluded a search of the property and have recovered a number of weapons from inside the property, Ruxley Road, Bucknall.

“Enquiries are ongoing to locate the male suspect after what was reported to be a domestic incident where a woman was assaulted.

“We recognise the disruption this incident has caused and we would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding.”
