TRIBUTES have been paid to a former leading city councillor from the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Terry Doughty, from Roughcote, near Caverswall, who died earlier this month, aged 68, was a former Labour group leader on Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
He served as education committee chairman and cabinet member for education in the late 1990s.
The former Staffordshire University lecturer quit local politics after losing his seat at the 2007 local elections.
Deputy Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Lillian Dodd said: “Terry had been a much-respected and well-known community champion who dedicated three decades of service on the council for the people of Stoke-on-Trent.”
Mr Doughty’s funeral will take place at St Filumena’s Catholic Church, in Caverswall, on Friday, January 19, at 1.30pm, followed by a wake at the Red House pub in Caverswall.
