Elderly woman a victim of distraction thieves at Biddulph store

POLICE are warning shoppers using cash cards to pay for goods to be on their guard against opportunist thieves.

It follows an incident at a Biddulph store where an elderly woman had £250 withdrawn from her bank account.

The money was taken after thieves watched the woman key in her pin number at B&M, in High Street, and then distracted her to steal her purse

The alleged offender wanted in connection with the theft is described by police as ‘Eastern European’.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman warned: “People should be mindful when using cash cards at tills that people cannot see pin numbers entered in machines.”
