First-class spinner Callum’s a prize catch for the Highfielders’

LEEK Cricket Club have considerably strengthened their team for the 2018 season in the North Staffordshire and South Cheshire League by signing exciting young Leicestershire spinner Callum Parkinson.

The Bolton-born 21-year-old is seen as a prize catch for the Highfielders, after an outstanding 2017 campaign which saw him collect three end-of-season awards.

Callum, pictured, hit the headlines when he claimed 10 wickets against Worcestershire at New Road, which included a superb haul of 8-148 in the first innings.

He progressed through the Lancashire youth system before becoming a part of the Derbyshire Academy on his way to taking the step up to first-class cricket with Leicestershire.

Callum made his first-class debut against his former club Derbyshire in August 2016.

He is the twin brother of Lancashire spinner Matt Parkinson.

The duo played their club cricket at Urmston in the Cheshire League and became the first twins to represent Staffordshire in 2015.

Matt is currently on tour with the British Lions in the Caribbean and figured in a resounding victory over Antigua Masterblasters in a one-day 50-over fixture at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

The Lions blasted their way to 328-9 before dismissing their opponents for just 82 runs.
