Police appeal for help after yobs leave their mark at Pointon Park

THE John Pointon Sports and Recreation Facility at Cheddleton has been targeted by vandals.

“Sad to report that for the first time in nearly five years we’ve had some graffiti painted on the skateboard park at the facility,” said park manager John Barratt.

Police are appealing for help in tracing the culprit(s).

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “The vandalism happened at some point between 4pm on Wednesday and 9am on Thursday.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101.

Pointon Park was developed on the site of the former Beresford bus garage as a memorial to local factory owner John Pointon who passed away in May 2006.

Though John Pointon & Sons financed the park’s construction at a cost of several hundred thousand pounds, the ownership and management of the site was handed over to a charitable company consisting of local residents and representatives from local sports groups.

The park offers an extensive range of recreational facilities for use by the local community and was officially opened by members of the Pointon family in August 2013.
