Matt floors the opposition in the Potters Arf with a new record

CHEDDLETON’S global athlete Matt Clowes (Cardiff AAC) smashed the course record when winning today’s Potters Arf in Stoke-on-Trent.

He clocked 1:06:53 to slash 39 seconds off the previous best time for the half-marathon race, which was 1:07:32 clocked by Salford’s Andi Jones in 2012.

“Everything went to plan and the race was really good,” said a delighted Matt.

Matt ( pictured) hasn’t looked back since departing North Staffordshire for the USA in 2011 to take up a scholarship.

His destination was Portland, Oregon where he attended Concordia University to compete for the cross-country and field team.

Since then the former Staffordshire Moorlands AC runner has gone on to enjoy immense success as an athlete and has competed in events around the globe.

More than 1,900 runners took part in today’s Hanley Economic Building Society-sponsored Potters Arf in Stoke-on-Trent.
