LIVERPOOL FC legend Phil Thompson is the guest speaker at Leek Town’s latest Sportsman’s Evening next month.
Thompson, 64, nowadays a TV soccer pundit, is sure to have plenty to say about his illustrious career at Anfield – and as an England international.
The Kirkby-born defender played 42 times for his country – six as team captain – and enjoyed incredible success with Liverpool during the 1970s and 1980s.
His amazing medal haul includes seven League titles, three European Cups, two UEFA Cups, one FA Cup and two League Cups.
Thompson played with and against some of the biggest names in football and also had a spell as assistant to Liverpool manager to Gerard Houllier.
When Houllier was taken ill Thompson stepped in as caretaker manager for six months.
‘Thommo’ is a now a mainstay of Sky Sports popular Soccer Saturday show working alongside the likes of Jeff Stelling, Matt Le Tissier, Paul Merson and Charlie Nicholas.
