LOCAL rivals Leek and Ashcombe Park clash in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League Premier Division this Saturday (12.30).
Leek have a had a nightmare start to the season and find themselves at the foot of the table, whereas Ashcombe have faired much better and are in fifth place.
Ashcombe enter the game on the back of a 17-runs victory at home to Hem Heath and so will arrive at Highfield in good spirits.
Leek on the other hand suffered a miserable eight-wicket defeat away to newly-promoted Elworth. However, they responded well with a seven-wicket victory at Meakins in their defence of the JS Sports Talbot Cup the following day.
The scene is set therefore for an intriguing encounter between these Moorlands near-neighbours with such serious bragging rights at stake.
There’s the added attraction of Leek’s annual beer festival to attract fans to the game.
The pint-pulling – with added entertainment – begins tomorrow (Friday) night and continues through until Sunday.
