A HUGE wildfire which has destroyed more than 120-acres of heathland in the Staffordshire Moorlands a week ago is finally out, thanks to the sustained efforts of the county’s firefighters.
However some crews firefighters are still at the scene – between Thorncliffe and Fawfieldhead – to check for hot spots.
Smoke from the blaze, which was initially tacked by more than 40 firefighters, could be seen across North Staffordshire and beyond.
A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman wished to thanked people in the locality for providing crews with drinking water and food as they fought the blaze.
“Thank you all for your help,” he said.
