Man in court charged with Samanatha’s murder

A 32 year-old Stoke-on-Trent man has been charged with the murder of midwife Samantha Eastwood, of Greenside Avenue, Baddeley Green.

Michael Stirling, of Gratton Road, Bucknall, appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme this morning.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday (August 8).

The accused is the brother-in-law of Samanatha’s former fiancé.

Samantha’s body was discovered by police during a search of undergrowth in the Tickhill Lane area of Caverswall on Saturday. She had been missing for more than a week.

Two other men – aged 60 and 28 – who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries.
