Cheadle Christmas Lights Event

The festive season starts in Cheadle, on Saturday November 17th when the annual lights switch-on event takes place – starting at 2pm and running through until 6pm. The event is organised by Team Cheadle with support from the Cheadle Town Council and regularly attracts hundreds of people to the High Street.
Every year a theme given to the event, which this year is ‘Once Upon a Time’. Everyone is invited to dress up and decorate their stalls / shop windows, as their favourite fictional characters or books. The shop windows will be judged on the day by Cheadle’s Mayor Ian Plant, the best dressed will be awarded a certificate and have a shield to display until next year’s event.
Stalls booked especially for the event will be ready to trade at 2pm. However, the Market Square is fully booked and those stalls will be trading from 9am. Stalls attending the event will be selling a variety of goods, including Wooden Xmas Gifts, Dog Accessories, Mulled Cider and Mexican Street Food …. plus many more!
As well as trade staffs a number of local groups and charities will also have fund raising stalls. To encourage different types of fundraising activities, there will be a prize awarded by Team Cheadle to the stall with the most original fund-raising idea.
Another annual fixture of the event, is a visit from Santa Claus, who will arrive on his sleigh at 1.30pm courtesy of the Cheadle Carnival Committee. Santa will then be in his grotto throughout the event, like last year; the grotto will be at the top of the Market Square – new for this year is an inflatable grotto!
Street Entertainment at the event includes a stilt walking fire-eater and a Punch and Judy shows. A series of fairground rides will be along the High Street and at the bottom of Greyhound walk. JCB are also bring a digger to the event and will be handing out posters.
Live music will be performed in front of Lulworth House opposite the Market Square from 2pm. While the running order is subject to some minor alterations, correct as of going to press the line-up is:

2:30 Joslyn Plant (Singer)
3:00 Great Wood Primary School

The Cheadle Town Council have been working hard to get the lights refurbished and refreshed over the last couple of years – this year they’re expected to be better than ever. The lights will be switched on at 5pm by Cheadle’s mayor, with assistance from the Cheadle Carnival Queen.
Team Cheadle have also arranged with SMDC, that parking on the main car park will be free all day. Recently there was some confusion regarding this on Facebook, when the wrong posters were put up in the carpark – but free parking all day has since been confirmed again by Councillor Edwin Wain.
