Leek 1st XV seeking back-to-back wins after victory at Spartans

LEEK  Rugby Club 1st XV should be in good spirits for next Saturday’s (Dec 1)  visit from Stafford in Midlands Two West (North).

Last weekend’s 39-24 victory away to Spartans (Midlands) lifted them up to fifth place in the table.

An eventful game saw both sides down to 14 men in the first-half with Leek’s Jake Bainbridge red-carded for retaliation. And there was more drama for Leek after the break when try scorer Adam Varley went off with concussion.

Leek’s other try scorers were Bobby Cheadle, Jack Newton-Taylor (2), Joe Newton-Taylor and Sam Hunt.

LEEK rugby referee Mike Mulroy is getting ready to step up onto the world stage.

He is an assistant at the first round of the 2018/19 HSBC World Rugby Sevens in Dubai

Mike, 46, began refereeing in 2009 on finishing playing rugby and has had to get himself super-fit for his new challenge.

“The level of fitness is intense. Some of these guys run at 30kph and can do the 100m in less than 1025 seconds,” he said.
